Evolution of Negro dance showcased in six performer recital
A six dancer group presented a program tracing Negro dance from colonial beginnings to modern times with Flowers providing narration. The night featured vivid voodoo imagery, street cry pieces, and a shift from Ragtime to contemporary pop. Some numbers felt stereotyped and one ballet piece detracted. The dancers showed spirited energy, with male performers stronger than the women, and colorful costumes. The audience applauded. AB.
