Lawrence women organize cancer benefit bowling event

Two Lawrence residents plan a July 21 bowling fundraiser for Livestrong and Catch a Break. Michelle Derusseau, 48, is a Douglas County leader for The Lance Armstrong Foundation, educating the community about free resources and support for cancer patients and families.

Cancer support shapes family’s hard choices and loss

XC Weli’s uncle died seven weeks after a lung cancer diagnosis, with Livestrong guiding the family through urgent decisions. Derusseau notes the program helped organize affairs and provided a resource for her children. Her father survived prostate cancer and her stepmother is a two time breast cancer survivor, reflecting many friends who battled the disease.

Rock'n Bowl fundraiser in Lawrence supports cancer fight

Lawrence hosts its first Rock n Bowl fundraiser at Royal Crest Lanes on July 21 with noon 3 pm and 6 pm slots. Tickets are 50 per person 25 for Kansas and Haskell students includes three games shoe rental food and drinks. Opera House Myth Anchors Hays Landmark History

In Hays the Krueger Building, long called the Opera House, may soon close as its final curtain falls. The Star Theater across Fort Street acted as the opera venue a century ago, while the brickstone Krueger structure hosted impromptu performances and even a makeshift courthouse after Ellis County’s courthouse burned.
