Marshall Budgets U.S. Armored Corps for Rapid Build Up
General George C. Marshall announced that the army will speed an actual armored corps into service within a few months with two divisions and more than 18 000 personnel. The force will include about 700 armored vehicles per division and 300 guns and howitzers, surpassing German panzer strength in some aspects. The plan calls for stripping infantry and cavalry of tanks for later model vehicles, with a shortage of 105 millimeter guns and track vehicles at the outset.
