The Patriot sparks renewed push for Revolutionary War cinema
Mel Gibson leads The Patriot as Benjamin Martin in a film that revives Hollywood interest in the American Revolution. Producers say the period poses narrative challenges, while Gibson and Ledger highlight action and emotion to engage audiences. The movie frames guerrilla warfare and personal stakes against a broader genre shift toward modern wars.
