Lula B. Irving longtime Lawrence resident died at her home 823 Conn Street at age 93. Born April 15, 1866 she attended local schools and was a KU North College student. Active in civic fraternal and church groups she was Ninth Street Baptist Church oldest member and long time church clerk. Survived by two daughters, a sister-in-law, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements announced by Bowser Lee Mortuary.
A U.S. Air Force bomber crashed into the Atlantic near the Azores. Capt. Stephen Carter of East Hartford Conn. was rescued in good condition by a British freighter and transferred to a U.S. Navy ship for medevac to Lajes Air Base. Three other crewmen are missing as an intensive search continues.

In a few months five members of the Raymond Parr family have died in highway accidents. Jackie Parr, 17, died from injuries of a June 21 motorcycle crash. His parents and two younger brothers perished last October in a fiery collision near Lamarque. Three siblings remain.

Chicago AP report says Paul The Waiter Ricca surrendered to start a three year federal prison sentence for income tax evasion. The 62 year old crime boss wore a straw hat brown pants and jacket as he entered the U S marshal's office and gave his name. He declined to comment to reporters.

Williamson won 210 votes to Barber’s 188. Governor Docking appoints six members. seven elected by the bar. Hugo T. Wedell was elected chairman. Future appointments will come from a three name slate agreed by the commission, with the governor or chief justice selecting from that list.
