Private graveside services were held for William H. Greer 88 formerly of 709 N Second. He died Friday at Samaritan Lodge and was a WW I veteran and retired cook. Survived by wife Leta. Also noted were the deaths of Donald Wolfersperger 55 longtime Lawrence resident who died in Marina Del Rey California and Jennie Elizabeth Gantz 71 of rural Perry. Services for Gantz were at Rumsey Funeral Home with burial at Underwood Cemetery.

Two local men, both 18, remained in custody on $20,000 bond after a weekend break-in at the Gibson Discount Center in Iowa. Police say they hid in the store after closing, tied up a night watchman, and left with cash and five handguns. The case echoes a similar incident last month with several thousand dollars recovered.
