Lawrence adult education pre enrollment lists 33 regular courses and nine vocational offerings for the spring term. Enrolment stands at 670 with space for late registration during the first two weeks. A new oil painting class begins 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays in the Community Building basement led by Mrs. Lillien Burnham.
The Central Junior High School auditorium was crowded Friday for the Ninth Grade Players production Lit-Warten. A new performance is set for 7 30 p m today as a 10th anniversary celebration of the gimmor Players production from 1949. Mrs Deal Six directed the town gift event thanking the acting group for annual performances. telegrams arrived from Karl Heider, son of Fritz Heider, praising the 1949 Mr Lawrence cast member who is now at Harvard. All 1949 cast are invited to a cast party in the Junior high gym tonight after the show.
Arthur E Spraggins 27 died early today at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after emergency surgery for appendicitis. A Sedalia Missouri native and Montgomery Ward assistant manager, he lived here since November 1964 and previously worked in Jefferson City, Kansas City and Sedalia. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Blackman Funeral Home in Kansas City. Memorial in Kansas City. Survived by wife Lorraine two children Pammy Joe and Patty a brother Rob and his parents William A. and Mrs Spraggins of Sedalia.

CAPE CANAVERAL Fla AP the Air Force fired a 65 foot Thor missile on a 1700 mile flight test. It marked the 25th Thor launch since the IRBM program began two years ago. The Douglas built rocket, now considered operational, was aimed at reliability and has been assigned with NATO defense forces in England. The missile rose and disappeared through low clouds in 24 seconds.
The Lawrence Amateur Radio Club elected officers at its monthly meeting on Friday. George Berg was chosen president succeeding Rev Alien Pickering, with Gary Floyd as vice president. Lloyd Erics son becomes secretary, Karl Abegg is treasurer, and Cliff Chamney named activities chairman.
The Kansas University Extension Center in Kansas City will host 20 or more leaders from nine states February 2 for the 2nd Annual Midwest Work Course on Materials Handling Analysis. The integrated work-study program targets materials handling analysts and industrial engineers with practical training.
An ex convict and his red haired wife were booked on homicide charges for the knife slaying of Birdland assistant manager Lee Schlesinger 42 and his wife Terry 35. The suspects, captured Friday night after eluding traps, face arraignment. Schlesinger had a prior record for weapons violations burglary and grand larceny. His wife has convictions for prostitution forgery and grand larceny.
First Christian Church observes Youth Sunday during morning worship with J. Robert Balch delivering In De fense of Youth. Junior and Senior High youth assist, including Carol Masden and Sharon Dobbins. High school boys act as ushers and deacons. Karl Garrett performs How Lovely are Thy Dwellings. Memorial Hospital reports admissions for Wanda Dick-Peddie Mary Tuley William Matney Connie and Billie Sue Matney Jennie Rutgers Lydia Howell Krista Belle Sutherland Elaine Mather and others. Births announced for Konrad Bremmer Paul Tuley Robert Sutherland James Mather with several new sons born.
Area from Cooper-Warren Funeral Home to Roy Baker Funeral Home in Overbrook for burial. Officers could not estimate the truck’s speed but said it was not speeding. The Matney truck moved the stalled vehicle about 20 feet on impact. Taylor drove to the scene of the five death crash near Eudora. He was hospitalized for sedation after Friday’s collision. Douglas County deaths totaled five for the last year, with prior years at six. The record high 22 deaths occurred in 1952.
In Stuttgart the European director of the American Red Cross asked East German Red Cross leaders for a conference to discuss the release of U S Army pilot Richard Mackin. Director Robert Storey Wilson telephoned Dr Werner Ludwig to request talks. The 27 year old Washington D C pilot parachuted into East Germany after his plane ran out of fuel.
Kansas lawmakers review constitutional changes proposed by the Commission on Constitutional Revision. Key points include an executive branch overhaul with four year terms, term limits for the governor, a comptroller general appointed by the legislature, and a governor lieutenant governor ticket. Legislative reapportionment would shift to a three member commission, with the size of the legislature unchanged. Senate debate touched on deficit spending limits and real estate assessment reforms. A separate bill would permit four year olds to work in non hazardous jobs without work permits.
Iowa Secretary Clyde Spry announced an embargo on cattle shipments from Kansas beginning Monday due to a cattle plague outbreak in six Kansas counties. Colorado and Nebraska have already barred Kansas cattle, with Missouri and Oklahoma expected to follow.

Wolfe outlined three proposed bills for Central Junior High funded by new revenues. The second bill would provide about 65 000 to 75 000 dollars over two years as strictly operating money, similar to a two mill levy. The third bill aims to redistribute state funds to schools more evenly, addressing the current 20 percent state contribution to local operating costs.
