Clyde G. Brooks 76 of Kansas City Missouri died Thursday morning at Kansas City Osteopathic Hospital where he had been a parent for two weeks. He owned land eight miles west of Lawrence and funeral services are planned at Wagner Funeral Home in Kansas City then at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be Keen Cemetery in Dover. He had no immediate survivors.

Two Patrolmen Shot by Youth in Englewood

Veteran diver saved after six hour battle in icy Chicago shaft
Frank Hefling 55, a veteran diver, spent more than six hours submerged in 75 feet of ice cold water beneath a Chicago street. He was pulled from a 12-foot by 179-foot deep shaft to a water tunnel after a torn suit filled with water. His air hose pressure kept water from drowning him during the rescue.
