Ex-officer civil suit over abuse allegations dismissed
A federal judge dismissed William J. Burke's civil defamation and wrongful imprisonment lawsuit against the City of Lawrence and multiple Lawrence Police Department members. The case, filed in September 2016 tied to a domestic violence incident and alleged sexual abuse, was dismissed with prejudice by mutual stipulation, with no payout. City officials said Burke dismissed the case of his own accord and both sides bore their own costs.
