Moriarty writers face political climate debate
Lawrence author and KU professor Laura Moriarty faced a Twitter storm last fall over her upcoming novel American Heart. The book imagines a future with Muslim internment camps in the American West and uses a white teen narrator, drawing criticism as culturally insensitive. In the story, Sarah Mary awakes to the reality of prejudice after meeting Iranian Muslim immigrant Sadaf and helps her escape to Canada.
