Understanding Boiling and Simmering at Sea Level
A brief note explains that boiling and simmering are the same cooking process conceptually, differing only in temperature. It cites 212 degrees Fahrenheit as the boiling point at sea level and implies simmering operates below this threshold for gentler heat.
Cooking heat levels and simmering technique
Soups and stews are initially brought to a boil on high heat then reduced to simmer until fully cooked. The simmering temperature is around 185 degrees, ensuring gentle steady cooking without rapid boiling.
