Humane Society may seek private loan for Lawrence shelter
Lawrence Humane Society weighs moving financing from a city loan to a private lender for its $7.5 million animal shelter. City plans a $2.5 million grant and a $25 million loan, but officials say nonfinancial factors could push the project toward private funds while meeting cash on hand and fundraising targets. Construction could start in the spring as the city reviews contracts and decisions on loan size and source.
