Home on the Range and the Kansas cabin saga
The piece traces Brewster Higley’s 1870s Kansas cabin and the poem that became Home on the Range. It notes Higley’s exile from Ohio, the poem’s publication in the Smith County Pioneer, Dan Kelley’s musical input, and the song’s rise to a western folk anthem later tied to Kansas.
