Fire destroys Morton county courthouse at Richfield Kansas
January 28 1941 Morton county courthouse in Richfield burned to the ground built in 1885 of native sandstone housed four county offices treasurer register of deeds county clerk and court. Fire discovered by county clerk Mrs Margaret Titon around 8 30 pm as smoke poured from a flu over a coal furnace. Vaults failed some records lost while others saved. About 700 locals and farmers watched as the historic building burned and a possible move of county government to Elkhart was discussed.
