Farewell to Sir Edmund Hillary in New Zealand
Sherpas laid prayer scarves on Hillary's coffin as thousands gathered across New Zealand for a state funeral in Auckland. About 500 dignitaries and family attended St Mary's Anglican Church while crowds watched at large venues nationwide. Hillary died of a heart attack on January 11 at age 88. Prime Minister Helen Clark praised him as a hero who embodied determination against the odds and his wish was for his ashes to be scattered at Waitematā Harbor, Auckland.

Methane-reducing cattle supplement found by Tokyo researchers
Researchers at Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine report that adding cysteine and nitrate to dairy cattle feed roughly halves belched methane output without harming milk. The team notes methane from ruminants drives a significant share of greenhouse gases and plans a June symposium to share findings globally.
