Deer hunters feed hungry Kansans through venison program
De Soto bow hunter De Bob Bergeson donates two deer annually to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry in Kansas. Venison is processed at Steve's Meat Market for $75 per deer and distributed through local social service agencies, aided by volunteers and fundraisers to cover processing costs. The program has grown from 180 donations in 2001 to about 800 deer statewide, supplying roughly 160000 servings while reducing vehicle deer accidents in high-risk areas.
