Grandmother honors King legacy at KU candlelight vigil
Carmaletta Williams, grandmother of multiple generations, joined about 125 people for Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in KU Strong Hall. An a cappella group opened the ceremony while Alpha Phi Alpha members spoke on the day’s meaning. Attendees lit candles and marched in small groups from Strong Hall to the Kansas Union singing along. among the participants were Leticia Garcia and her two sons Julian and Diego, plus family friend Ellington Presley.
