In Kansas City on January 15 the Corn Products Refining plant in North Kansas City shut down as the night shift of 72 workers walked out at 1 am. Edward Chevlin of the CIO United Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Employes says Pekin and Argo Illinois plants also struck seeking a 20 cent an hour raise and abolition of the Bedaux time study system. About 550 hourly workers are affected in Kansas City plus 1,100 at Pekin and 1,800 at Argo. The union filed a 30 day strike notice in October and acted after company officials would not meet with union leaders last week.
