Shooting at Golden Arrow cafe leaves man dead
Charles Wright 26, a Topeka native, was fatally shot by Duke Scott, a cafe employee, during a Saturday night affray at the Golden Arrow cafe near Eighth and Walnut in North Lawrence. Tanker explosion rocks Manila harbor at night
A tanker blew up in Manila harbor at 9 45 p m sending a bright glare over the water. An armed policeman aboard the Robert D Carey reported the vessel anchored about 2000 yards offshore and witnessed two flames silhouetting another ship before the tanker ignited. A smoke column rose to about a thousand feet as explosions followed for five minutes. Fire boats responded and fire was later brought under control with many feared dead among the crew and passengers.
