Four men working for the Adit Mining Co. were blown to pieces at Ward, a mining camp twenty miles from Kalispell, after a 33 pound box of giant powder exploded. The men had loaded holes from an ore car near the tunnel mouth when the blast occurred five minutes after starting the car. An exploring party found their severed remains, unrecognizable, amid rock and timber debris. The accident is believed to have occurred when the powder box was dropped or released from a car, triggering the explosion.
