Reserve Board Lifts Discount Rate to Five Percent
The Federal Reserve Board declares a passive 0.5 percentage point increase in the discount rate for member banks from 4.5% to 5% effective Monday. It says this won’t trigger nationwide rate hikes and aims to keep the rate about 1% below the prime rate currently near 6%.
