Loux Introduces Tax Disallowance Bill in Kansas House
Rep. Richard C. Loux introduced a bill to permanently disallow state income tax deductions for federal income taxes paid by corporations and banks. Gov. Docking calls it tax reform and a revenue-sharing shift. Republicans warn of a tax increase and favor direct rate hikes. The measure aims to raise about 30 million first year and 26 million annually thereafter.

City plan to raise wages eyed at Lawrence meeting
The Lawrence City Commission plans to unveil a new pay schedule for city employees at Tuesday's 2 p.m. meeting in the First National Bank building. The plan, based on a Becker Co. consultant report, could raise wages for many workers. Also on the agenda is a 2500 expenditure to install grasslike ceramic material in medians at 15th and Towa and 19th and Iowa, with 50 percent federally funded. The commission will decide on sidewalk placement for Naismith Drive and may schedule a public hearing on a sidewalk plan for the 19th to 28th Street area. City Manager Buford Watson recommends a city $2125 grant to aid a senior transportation program, contingent on a federal grant.
