Soil Conservation Service Notes on 1939 Rainfall and Seeding
Rainfall in the West Tally Creek project for 1939 totaled 25.16 inches, 11.4 inches below regional norms. Dry conditions in July hurt corn, fall drought hindered legume and grass seedings, with September among the hottest and driest on record. Tame grass seeding by J. F. Staadt near Ottawa, Kansas, using a corn planter for brome grass shows promise for dual harvests. Stockholm notes Sweden’s humanitarian aid to Finland without military commitments. Congress may extend sessions into late June, per Senate Leader Barkley.
