Wing Shifts On TFX Make Air History
In Fort Worth Texas the TFX biservice fighter made aviation history by shifting its variable sweep wings during a flight. Pilot R L Johnson and co pilot Val Prahl demonstrated a 16 degree forward wing position to 72 5 degree sweep at 400 knots 450 mph. Officials said the craft could reach 2 5 times the speed of sound and the test costs include a potential 800 000 incentive bonus for General Dynamics.
