Lawrence Public Library thrives as community hub after renovation
Since the Lawrence Public Library reopened at 707 Vermont St the facility has seen 64 percent more visits and a 28 percent rise in library cards in 2014. Popular items now include music CDs DVDs and audiobooks with Frozen leading checkouts. The library hosts MOOC Health and Wellness 101 starting Jan 14 with up to 20 participants, plus winter hat and glove collections and guest speakers from Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The building aims to be a center for lifelong learning and community events despite the plaza ice rink shortfall.

ISIS critique of Western values merits study says Cal Thomas
Cal Thomas argues that American and European moral and spiritual decline fuels radical Islamists. He cites Nagata seeking understanding of ISIS and warns Western culture may appear godless and decadent. He notes polls showing sympathy for extremists and suggests self-examination of Western values before victory over Daesh is possible.
