EPA grants Kansas relief on air quality data for Flint Hills burns
Federal regulators excluded four April 2011 days from Kansas air quality calculations due to prescribed burns and drifting wildfire smoke from outside the state. The move affects central and eastern Kansas monitoring sites including Wichita and Kansas City, potentially easing local regulatory pressure while noting the Flint Hills fire management context. Kansas officials say the exemption helps align data with regional fire practices and ecological conditions.
