At Panmunjom, Reds voiced seven objections to the six point Allied plan to exchange prisoners and to a Red Cross supervised swap. Allied troops recaptured Christmas Hill on the East Central Front as patrols sparred along the 143 mile front. Limited air operations resumed as skies somewhat cleared.
Senator Wiley R Wise announced a full investigation into the Alien Property Office amid tips about multi million dollar activities and fat fees. He cites reports of mis management favoritism and large assets under control by 55 active companies including General Aniline and Film Corporation, the second largest film maker in the country, with assets totaling over 505 million dollars seized during World War II.
Washington reports Stuart Symington plans to resign soon as head of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation after six years in the post. President Truman said RFC policies were not involved, with several top aides and allies expected to leave as part of a broader cleanout. Symington, a noted wartime loan mover and former Air Force secretary, has faced ongoing disputes with State Department officials over tin price negotiations with Bolivia.
After a week of lonely vigil Capt. Kurt Carlsen remained aboard the battered Flying Enterprise as fog and winds halted towing efforts to England. The Turmoil prepared to resume, with the U S destroyer John W Weeks nearby, amid forecasts of more gales while Carlsen clings to the ship and its cargo valued at over a million dollars.
Relatives in Coffeyville report former local resident John Ziegler critically burned in a house fire just before Christmas. He lived alone in a home on a daughter’s property and, being blind and deaf, could not escape the blaze. He is believed to have sustained burns to the heels and back. Fire followed a long line of family memory, with ties to the Zieglers and surrounding communities in the area.
Major James Klein announced tentative two day plans for the 325th anniversary of Fort Leavenworth to be held next May with Armed Forces Day. Public participation will include sketches photographs uniforms and civilian period wear from 1827 to 1919 to be scanned for display.

Sleet and freezing rain mixed with snow in the southeast corner.
Lawrence fire department rushed to two small fires last night. At 3 p.m. smoke was seen from a glove left near a stove at 616 Mien Street and residents could not locate a source. At 9 p.m. firefighters responded to Bill Padley residence in the 400 block of E South Street where a hot stove pipe threatened the roof.
Four meetings are set in flood areas under operation refund to explain 1951 federal income tax refunds and waivers for losses. C G Hesse vice president and general manager of Lawrence Paper Co progressed satisfactorily at Mayo Clinic Rochester after eye related illness. Earlier Christmas period he faced worsening inflammation leading to treatment in Kansas City for an enlarged血 vessel behind the eye and underwent surgery last Monday with improving condition reported.
Senator Frank Carlson announced Wesley Roberts of Holton Kansas as administrative assistant in the Eisenhower for President organization in Washington Roberts, 49, was Republican state chairman 1947 to 19 and helped Carlson win the governorship and Senate campaigns Carlson said the appointment reflects a need for political background and organizational ability.
Police Judge J Earl Thomas of Kansas City Kansas announced his resignation to Mayor Clark Tucker after recordings from his private office were reviewed. Kansas Attorney General Harold Fatzer plans ouster proceedings in the Kansas Supreme Court amid links to gambling activity and calls for removal.

Walter Pettengill of 718 Ky. St. reported two strangers posing as passengers robbed him at about 1 am. They hijacked his cab near 10th and Mass, ordered him out near 8th and Tenn, took about 860 in cash and 5 or 6 cents, then fled. The car was found abandoned on Tennessee Street. Pettengill had no injuries.

In 1951 the City Building Inspector issued 248 construction permits valued at about 1.28 million dollars, below 1950’s record 1.78 million. New housing rose to 111 permits totaling 786,750 dollars, boosted by 27 homes in Park Hill.
