Bronze Chariots Unearthed Near First Chinese Emperor Tomb
Chinese archaeologists near the tomb of Chin Shih-huang Ji disclose two half life size bronze chariots with eight horses and two charioteers. The pieces, weighing 1.1 tons each, were found on the tomb site’s western side and are being assembled from about 1,000 fragments. The find parallels the nearby life size pottery army uncovered in 1974 and enhances understanding of the Chin dynasty through ongoing excavations that have drawn millions to the site since 1979.
