Legislature weighing groundwater conservation measures in Kansas
A dry year pushed Kansas groundwater down with an average 2.25 foot decline in 2011 across 1 400 wells in 47 counties. The Kansas Geological Survey notes variable regional water reserves with some counties capable of 100 years of use while others are already dry. The state moves to curb declines via legislative proposals, highlighted amid drought and long term declines since 1996.
