Nixon greeted by crowd in Canton China

Tens of thousands cheered as Richard Nixon arrived in Canton for the final stop of his China visit. He moved near the edge of the crowd on Liberation Road, then rode to his limousine amid a near frantic reception. Great Plains Architecture Exhibit Opens in Topeka Museum

Kansas University researchers Craig Frazier and Peter Burgess premiere a 50 panel display “Architecture of the Great American Desert” at the Elizabeth Watkins Museum. The show profiles early plains buildings using 13 000 miles of fieldwork and 4 500 photographs with sections on churches barns forts and homes. It runs through March 27 and may tour the four state area with a possible book edition later.

Committee Undercuts Ford Plan on 1977 Tax Cut

Kidnaped Kerr boy escapes from car trunk

In Houston area eight year old Colin Kerr son of a nuts and bolts salesman was abducted Friday near Friendswood and held eight hours in a car trunk for a one million dollar ransom. He escaped from the trunk at a drive in grocery lot as authorities arrested a suspect in a park.

Hearst details alleged SLA abuse during Sacramento years

Patricia Hearst testified in her bank robbery trial that during the year she spent in California she endured “struggle sessions” with Symbionese Liberation Army members in Sacramento. Psychiatrist Dr. Lifton corroborated that Hearst faced taunts and physical abuse as she was drilled in military tactics and conditioning amid fears of the SLA and FBI.
