Drunk Driving Charge After Kaw Bridge Crash

Topeka February 28 AP An army of Kansas assessors will begin Monday a two month task assessing property for tax tolls. Valuations will cover personal property this year as quadrennial real estate assessments were done in 1930. Intangibles will also be taxed under a new law. The intangible rate of five mills did not apply last year for the first time since 1925. Walter Pleasant, chairman of the state tax commission, said blanks for listing intangible property will be mailed to county clerks. About 2,600 assessors are needed. last year's cost was $600,000. Atchison county will assess real estate and personal property.

Fire inspectors lose jobs amid budget squeeze in Topeka
