Lawrence board renames South Middle to Billy Mills Middle School
In a surprise move the Lawrence school board voted 7-6 to rename South Middle School Billy Mills Middle School. About 100 supporters urged the change, despite a prior written recommendation proposing Billy Mills South Middle School. Jennifer Attockine, Native American student coordinator, spoke at the meeting.

Zebra mussel treatment shows promise for water main
City officials report a six month use of electrical currents to treat a Clinton Lake to Clinton Reservoir water main infestation with zebra mussels. A 2000 foot colony was found last spring during a pipe replacement and management is proceeding to prevent valve encrustation and costly repairs.
