City Lifeline utility discount could expand in Lawrence
Lawrence considers expanding its Lifeline program which now serves 86 of 32 000 utility customers. The 65 percent discount targets residents age 60 and older, costing about 58 600 annually, a fraction of the 62.8 million the city collects from water sewer stormwater trash and recycling charges. Commissioner Matthew Herbert urged reevaluating the program to broaden reach or pursue cost neutral changes.
