The Lawrence school board meets at 7 p.m. Monday at 110 McDonald Drive to consider offering Superintendent Kathleen Williams a contract extension. A near unanimous turnout supports retention, though terms remain to be negotiated as her current deal ends June 30. Williams earns 122000 annually.
Williams was chosen in July 1998 from more than 30 candidates to follow Supt Altzinger. She had been an assistant superintendent in Schaumburg since 1995 and previously was an elementary principal in Naperville. In Lawrence she pushed four bond funded school projects and the district bought a $4.1 million office warehouse at 110 McDonald Drive. She leads the district's response to an audit and works to improve strategic planning.
The Lawrence school board approves minutes from the February meeting, monthly vouchers, and personnel changes. It receives reports from several district groups and the board president, and approves a $860,000 sale of India School property to DCCCA for office space. An executive session is convened and the academic calendar for 2000 2001 is approved along with various purchase contracts and labor negotiations.
Douglas County Commissioners plan Monday talks on fees for online access to real estate tax and court activity data, pavement marking bids, and resurfacing County Road 1055 from Wakarusa River Bridge to County Road 458. The consent agenda includes a cereal malt beverage license, road maintenance bids, and a booster pump permit for Edgerton. Meeting at 9 a.m. at the courthouse.
Cub Scout Pack No 3501 marked 50 years at Central United Methodist Church with a potluck banquet attended by about 150 scouts leaders and parents. The event honored Webelos and featured banners music and a special opening ceremony as longtime district officials and former members spoke of the program’s lasting impact.
