Ku Klux Wrangle Honor To Jardine Illinois Senator
Foes of the Ku Klux Klan lost their first senate skirmish as a Johnson bill amendment failed to oust foreign benevolent corporations. The measure would admit the Klan to Kansas without a charter but under court liability. In Topeka debates raged over jurisdiction and possible dissolution of the Klan if it could file a charter and be governed by courts. Manhattan bids farewell to Dr William M Jardine president of Kansas State Agricultural College as he heads to Washington to become secretary of agriculture. A farewell program includes speeches by Henry J Allen Henry J Waters Clyde Miller and others with a banquet at Nichols gymnasium.
