Shots Fired to Halt Two Boys in Topeka Car Theft Chase
Two Topeka youths, Everett Fenwick aged 18 and Kenneth Taliaferro aged 15, stole a 1938 Ford V-8 in Topeka and after being chased about five miles by sheriff's deputies near Lawrence were captured on Seventh Street. Deputies Candreia and Collins fired buckshot and revolver rounds at the fleeing car, leaving 37 bullet holes in the vehicle. A 32 caliber revolver was found in the car. The youths were jailed in Lawrence to be sent back to Topeka.
