Chamber official optimistic airport fund goal reached

The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce plans to tell city commissioners that its drive to raise 35 000 for expansion of Lawrence Municipal Airport has reached the target. Glenn West said final accounting would come later but he is optimistic a favorable report will be issued. Contributions include 1000 from Quaker Oats Co. The project would back a 350 000 land purchase from the Kansas University Endowment Association with FAA grant hopes two to three weeks away.

Costa concert draws 700 at KU Theatre

More than 700 attended Sequeira Costa’s recital in the University Theatre at Kansas University. It was his first performance since he was named KU’s Cordelia Brown Murphy Professor of Music in January. Costa wore the medallion design by KU design professor Carlyle H. Smith, bearing the university seal, to honor the Cordelia Brown Murphy Chair of Music. The chair was created by former Chancellor Franklin D. Murphy for his mother, a former professional concert pianist.

Lawrence Memorial Hospital expansion on track for May 5 opening
