Man Killed at Paper Mill in Lawrence Area
One man died and two were injured in separate weekend accidents in the Lawrence area. John Clifton Taylor, 40, of 7 Michigan Street, was killed Sunday noon in the Lawrence Paper Co. mill theater room when a metal rod caught in a pulley wheel and struck him. Two workers at Sunflower Ordnance Works, Herman Vogel, 35, and Edward D. Tesch, 38, suffered burns in a mixer flash fire Saturday night. Vogel in critical condition with third degree burns, Tesch minor burns and released. Taylor’s death is the mill’s first fatality since 1937. Taylor had worked at the mill since 1947 and leaves a wife, daughter, parents, sister, and an uncle. Funeral arrangements pending.
