Doctors chart course for mission of mercy
Five doctors and nurses from Kansas University Medical Center will travel to Jenin, West Africa, meeting the ship Anastasis in Cotonou for a three week medical mission. They will perform plastic surgery on residents aboard the ship, a facility with three operating rooms, a dental clinic, a laboratory and X-ray unit, but no air conditioning. Temperatures below deck will run 85 to 95 degrees and responders have undergone vaccines for yellow fever, malaria, meningitis, hepatitis, typhoid and cholera.
