Washington Feb 21 AP The 258 million dollar revenue bill passed the House 272 to 132 after a GOP bid to cut the 3 cent hostage tax rate failed. The measure strengthens tax laws to curb avoidance by the wealthy, while lower brackets gain. Senate action, plus farm and housing finance plans, dominate discussions.
Former vice president Charles G. Dawes told an Association of Commerce gathering that he foresees continued better conditions in U S business and industry. He tied optimism to President Roosevelt's plan for a balanced federal budget in 1936 and said the President would withstand political pressure to extend emergency spending. Dawes added the President does not seem afraid.
