Discovery that no bond for X J Kennedy county commissioner was on file prompted official activity. Kennedy said he filed a bond when taking office, but the document could not be found. Fire traps ten elderly women at Pennsylvania memorial home
In Brookville Pennsylvania February 20 AP reports ten aged women burned to death while in beds as a fire swept through a one story 18 room infirmary during 18 below zero weather. Four others were rescued unharmed and one woman suffered slight burns. The victims aged 64 to 94 were widows daughters or cousins of Civil War veterans and had no chance to flee.
