GUF Board Plans Meeting Saturday
The advisory board of the Greater University Fund of Kansas University will hold its annual spring meeting Saturday afternoon in the New Engineering Building on the campus. Attending from Lawrence will be Mrs. C. C. Calvin, Dale Maxwell, Dolph Simons Jr. and Odd Williams. Dale W. McNeal of Kansas City Missouri, chairman of the board, will preside at the meeting, which also will include election of officers for the coming year. Speakers will be McNeal, Vice Chancellor James R. Surface, Dr. John S. McNown, dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture, and Maurice E. Barker, executive secretary of the GUF. Following a conducted tour of the new building and the nearby Nuclear Reactor Center, advisor y board members will be guests for dinner at the five men’s scholarship halls. The Greater University Fund is the agency that encourages annual giving by alumni and friends of EU for scholarships, loans, and other purposes for which state funds are not available.

Tax Cut Proposals Cut Capital Gains for Long Term Assets
The plan would lower the capital gains tax to 40 percent with a 21 percent ceiling for assets held two years or more, replacing the current 5 percent rate with a 25 percent maximum. Elimination of the provision would save about 260 million dollars annually. The bill also shifts personal rates to 14 to 70 percent, with two thirds effective this year and one third in 1965. Corporate rates drop from 52 to 50 percent in 1964 and 48 percent next year, while wage withholding falls to 14 percent eight days after enactment.
