KU graduate broadcaster Richard Harkness dies at 69
Richard Harkness, 69, longtime radio and TV newsman and former Kansas Citian, died Wednesday at his Naples Florida winter home. A KU 1928 graduate, he worked for United Press in Kansas City and Jefferson City before covering the White House and Senate in Washington. He joined NBC in 1943 and influenced national and Kansas life with Midwest political reporting. He leaves his wife Ida Watkins Harkness and three sons, after his first wife Gladys Sutter died in 1973.
