Lawrence will be represented at the Kansas Music Educators Association All-State concerts in Wichita with selections from both Free State and Lawrence High School. Judy Erpelding notes two students will perform in the All-State orchestra after NC district auditions, with alternates awaiting.

Audubon bird count invites Douglas County volunteers
The Jayhawk Audubon Society invites Douglas County residents to join the four day Great Backyard Bird Count 2017 from today through Monday. Novice and experienced birdwatchers should spend at least 15 minutes counting birds outdoors and then log observations online. Entries can be made repeatedly from backyards or other bird friendly sites. BirdCount.org provides entry instructions and apps to help identify species.

Tax bill clears House in Kansas Legislature
Kansas House approves a tax bill to repeal many of Gov. Sam Brownback 2012 tax cuts, though by a smaller margin than in a prior vote. The measure moves to the Senate which plans debate and a vote. Includes note about law enforcement skepticism of Kobach migration bills.
