House votes quickly on tax bill amid party alignment
The Kansas House skipped expected debates and passed the Democratic tax bill with a surprising GOP margin. Democrats and Republicans split, Douglas County lawmakers largely supported the bill, while minority leaders warned of possible amendments to derail it. Brownback criticized the measure as a tax hike on everyday Kansans, and the chamber moves to address a $320 to $350 million revenue shortfall with pension and delayed payments in the final fiscal quarter. The Senate is set to debate tax legislation today or Friday.
