Chairman Gore says the inquiry will be wide in scope and run throughout the year, with members Manogue and Curtis approving the plan. New Hospital Opens Under Nonprofit Direction in Jefferson County
The Jefferson County Hospital, formed by a nonprofit corporation led by Ross Keys and Homer Sloop, will be managed by Nortonville laboratory technician Jack Mitchell. The board includes Mrs. Amon Ashworth, William C. Leech, Mrs. Victor Wiebsch, Neil Curry, Roy Baker, Earl Ferguson, John O’Neill, and Homer Weishaar. Six nurses and a superintendent will staff the facility, with Mitchell optimistic about recruiting. The hospital will help only modestly with Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s congestion, as most out-of-town patients come from the county’s southern part.
