A Tuesday grass fire in southeast Lawrence required two alarms and two fire companies to extinguish after spreading from a trash fire at 2200 Haskell Ave. The blaze burned several acres before rekindling and was finally controlled at 7 17 p.m. No damage was reported. Earlier, another grass fire at 1818 Miss St caused 100 dollars in damage to the foundation and flooring.

Local pilot on cited mission in Vietnam action
Capt Harvey L. Kimsey 33 of 2107 Maple Lane was one of three jet fighter pilots who triggered an enormous secondary explosion 30 miles northeast of Saigon after bombing an enemy position. A forward air controller said the blast created a 100 foot diameter fireball and smoke up to 3000 feet. Kimsey, with the 10th Fighter Commandos at Bien Hoa, flies F-5s and has been in Vietnam since late August 1966.
