Lawmakers shield $280M for roads in budget plan
Kansas House Transportation Budget Committee approved an amendment to keep about $444 million in the infrastructure budget for 2016 and 2017. The move blocks Brownback’s proposal to strip $724 million from transportation projects, arguing such cuts delay road repairs and drain funds earmarked for roads and infrastructure. Republican Rep. Russell Jennings said the amendment wards off misused funds and preserves road funding from taxes approved for infrastructure.
