Lawrence district hires independent health plan consultant
The Lawrence school district, with about 1,500 employees, uses self insured medical and dental coverage. An independent consultant will be paid up to $15,000 from the health care reserve fund to review plans amid changes in managed care. Four years ago, similar work yielded substantial savings, though no guarantee is offered. Hepatitis B is noted as a likely common workplace pathogen, with 23 employees exposed to blood-borne pathogens since July 1995 and 17 workers’ compensation claims totaling $6,334 paid.
