Lawmaker urges regents to oversee KU Hospital deal
Kansas lawmaker urges the Kansas Board of Regents to pause the March 31 deadline for the KU Hospital contract, reopen talks, and invite KU Hospital and KU Medical Center in Wichita to input. If the regents refuse, he may push a bill requiring legislative approval for KU Medical Center partnerships. He warns that interns transferring to St Luke’s could reduce general practice doctors at KU Medical Center Wichita.

Payless to close Topeka center and shift to dual hubs
Payless will shutter its 850000 square foot Topeka distribution center and launch two new hubs a 400000 square foot site in Redlands California this summer and a 600000 square foot center expected in 2008 east of the Mississippi as part of a 77 million investment aimed at a coastally clustered store network. The closure impacts about 600 workers with 450 to 550 remaining by closure time and some employees may seek openings at the new centers without relocation aid.
